On the Ruins of the Old

Cane Hill Hospital once stood for about 130 years. Now, only the chapel and the water tower remain intact at Cane Hill, amid the ruins of the burnt out front block.

Much is planned for the site, and it seems that shops and offices will be the first new buildings to be erected near the bottom of the main drive.

In its day, the famous old hospital and its estate housed thousands of patients and staff.

Many readers of Pam Buttrey’s definitive and successful book, Cane Hill Hospital – the Tower on the Hill have made contact with her.

They have told of their relatives and ancestors who once worked there, and how, by reading her book, they now know so much more of their lives and circumstances.

Interest in the people for whom the old Cane Hill Hospital was a work place or an institution, continues apace.
